Project overview

In 2020 the Park Board of Commissioners adopted the Southwest Service Area Master Plan which includes a vision for the future of The Mall Park. Several elements of that plan will be implemented in conjunction with Metropolitan Council Environmental Services’ (MCES) sewer construction in 2024. These include a new trail connection to the Midtown Greenway with amenities, a shared-use woonerf, stormwater elements, and some areas of impervious roadway reclaimed for green space.

MCES will be making improvements to the regional sanitary sewer pipes in the westbound lane of The Mall road between Bde Maka Ska Parkway and Humboldt Avenue. As park of MPRB’s long-term park plans, the westbound lane of The Mall road will be restored to turf/grass and trees, and the driving lane and parking will be permanently removed between Bde Maka Ska Parkway and Irving Avenue.
